What Cloud Computing Really Means

This might be the next big thing in computer services in the upcoming years. So what is this thing really all about?

Cloud is a metaphor for the internet. Cloud computing uses internet and servers to service applications and data. That means you don't need basically large hard drives and powerful hardware to use these applications, all you need is just a broadband connectivity which is largely available nationwide. All of your data and applications are stored in a file and application server which is available for you wherever you go.

Here are some of the advantages:

1. Applications in a cloud computing is easier to maintain since they don't need to be installed on you local hard drive. Whenever an update is available, it will automatically be available to you also.

2. Improved Security. Most of these companies that are offering cloud computing are well established and has a high level of security not unless someone tries to abuse it. Establishments now don't need to invest on a expensive firewalls to protect their workstations from worm attacks and malwares.

3. It is more reliable. Servers are made up of Virtual Machines that uses multiple redundant sites. No more downtime i guess.

4. It doesn't depend on a single location and device. This enable users to access their applications and data regardless of what platform and browser they have.
